Traditional Services

We work with children, adolescents, and adults with a variety of psychiatric and behavioral health concerns.  Based on a diagnostic evaluation and individual need, our clinical staff can blend traditional and holistic services to help you achieve your goals. Traditional service specialties at The Child & Family Counseling Center of Westlake include: counseling, integrated learning services, parent education and coaching, play and art therapy, and psychiatry services (under direction of our resident psychiatrist).

Counseling for Individuals, Families, Couples and Groups

Therapists use counseling (also called “talk therapy” or “psychotherapy’) to increase clients’ sense of well-being and improve mental health. The therapeutic relationship between clients and their therapists is a safe space where clients can freely discuss concerns and gain deeper understanding of challenges. Throughout the process, your therapist will use a variety of techniques to help reduce uncomfortable symptoms and self-defeating thinking while helping you to reach your mental health goals.

Integrated Learning Services

Students and adults who want to improve organization, focus, reading, or writing can take part in one-on-one tutoring though our Integrated Learning Services program. While participating in the program, our therapists help clients focus on skill development through individualized learning and behavior plans. Clients also develop stronger reading skills to improve fluency and comprehension of written materials.

Parent Education and Coaching

Families often benefit from using parent education and coaching to complement individual counseling with a child or adolescent. During education and coaching sessions, therapists may focus on ways to help parents/caregivers manage family dynamics or enhance parenting skills.

Psychiatry Services

Dr. Tanveer Hussain is a medical doctor (M.D.) who specializes in the medical treatment of psychiatric conditions. In addition to his adult psychiatry training, Dr. Hussain has completed sub-specializations in child/adolescent psychiatry from the Cleveland Clinic and addiction psychiatry from University Hospitals of Cleveland. Treatment plans with Dr. Hussain may include supportive therapy and education as well as the use of medications.

Therapy with Children (10 and under)

Therapists who work with children adapt the psychotherapy experience to the developmental needs of each child. When children have not yet developed communication skills to share thoughts and feelings, child therapists may use play scenarios or creative expression in the helping process.
